About The Emblem

The program is action oriented with a strong emphasis on reflective action. The program is designed to be done within a peer group under the guidance of a program counselor. The counselor plays a very important role with duties that may include coordinating the projects, leading discussions, and acting as a resource person.

Eligibility

Registered Cadette (or Senior)/Pioneer Girl Scout or American Heritage Girls of the Catholic Faith. The Marian Medal Project Book (Mary, the First Disciple Book) is designed for Scout ages 12-15. Like the other medals programs for Girl Scouts/American Heritage Girls, it is intended to complement the work of formal religious education, not take the place of this formal training.

Requirements & ordering Project book

Each Cadette (or Senior)/Pioneer scout must have her own Project Book. Books can be ordered directly from the Knoxville Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting for $6.95 each including shipping, the leader guid can be obtained for $4.25 each, also the prayer card can be had for $.50 each, make check payable to KDCCS and send to the address below or by contacting us at the following; Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting.

Program Completion

Upon completion of the program, the application form in the back of the project book is signed by the applicant, the adult leader and by the priest moderator for the group. The parent/guardian will need to send the application along with the application fee of $21.00 made out to KDCCS.

Award Ceremony

The emblem will be presented to your Girl Scout or American Heritage Girl at a formal ceremony and Mass. This will be cordinated with the pairents and the chairman of the Catholic Committee on Scouting in conjunction with the parish priest as to date and time of mass.

If the award is presented as a group the Unit religious emblem cordinator will work with the Catholic Comittee and parish to set up the date and time for the presentation.
